Ever wondered why the wedding and
engagement rings are worn on the left finger of the left hand?
The fourth finger on the left hand became the ring fingers long ago. It was during the ancient Egyptian era.
According to George Monger’s book, Marriage Customs of the World, people started to believe that there was “a vein or nerve [that] went from this finger to the heart” called the vena amoris.
Although science has long proven this belief as a mere myth. The vena amoris does not exist. The vasculature in your hands is pretty much the same, and there is no one vein in your hands linked directly to the heart.
That, however, hasn’t deterred engaged and married couples from keeping up with this wedding tradition. So, when next someone tells you that the ring finger is connected to the heart, tell them it is just a mere myth that has long been believed to be true.
